Default Richmond Scam

No wonder train travel is so expensive ...

Train workers jailed over £150,000 scam in which they issued 'fake' tickets and Oyster cards to passengers and pocketed cash for themselves

* Commuters unaware they were buying unofficial tickets and Oyster cards
* Gang pocketed £68,000 in Oyster scam and about £100,000 from rail tickets
* The scammers threw away their careers for 'the sake of greed'

Paging Ian Batten.... a new threat vector!!

Presumably they could only have pocketed cash, not credit card charges.

The story refers to 'fake' Oyster cards, but they weren't fake - it
seems they just never allocated the money coming over the counter into
the POS system. Possibly they did the same with the rail tickets they
issued.

I can't see how they didn't think a discrepancy would arise and
eventually get flagged up (particularly with the Oyster monies).

Of course most criminals are caught because they are stupid like that.
