This means that there are little bits of runinng tunnel abandoned (or saved for stock transfer/emergency purposes) where the lines have been diverted to different platforms. I don't think its a running tunnel , it doesn't look big enough, but then its hard to tell just looking out the window into the dark. The bit you can see is a blocked up tube tunnel where the original line was diverted. There is also one on the west/southbound but not quite as obvious (well, to the driver anyway). Others will be along to be able to say exactly which old line it was. The eastbound Picc uses it's original alignment and platform. The northbound Victoria uses the former westbound Piccadilly platform. The westbound Piccadilly uses the former northbound GN&C platform. The southbound Victoria uses the former southbound GN&C platform. Note the larger than usual diameter of the last two station tunnels built to accommodate mainline loading gauge rolling stock. |
