Longest and Shortest

Greetings,

Does anybody know what the longest and shortest distance is between bus
stops here in London?

I also wonder where there is the most remote bus stop in the Greater
London area?

I think you're going to have to be more specific before a decent answer
can be given.

For example, the 100 bus on Cable Street technically has a stand outside
St George's Town Hall, and a stop immediately adjacent (look on
countdown.tfl.gov.uk). They both have separate entries and timetables,
but does this count? I would argue not!

Similarly, you didn't mention that the bus stops need to be on the same
route, or that they be TfL contracted bus services. It can easily be
argued that the former is a bit of a nonsequitor, but the latter maybe
not so - consider the Oxford Tube from Shepherds Bush to Hillingdon....

Finally, define "remote" - is that from other TfL transport (in which
case isn't there a TfL bus that goes out to Slough or some such?), or
from civilisation in some form?

If by remote you mean outside the built up area then Liberty Cottages in Havering atte Bower on route 375 is a good candidate.

The route continues north to the Passingford Bridge roundabout in open country which is the first place where a bus can be turned.

No doubt there are similar rural routes south east of London.

The longest known distance between bus stops in London. As an analogy,
the distance between Chalfont & Latimer and Chesham as well as between
Canary Wharf and West India Quay.

So the furthest you can travel, paying for only one stop, on a scheduled
London Bus stage service?

Has the flat fare escaped your attention ?

But the between stops distances on the X26 (and other limited stop services)
are likely to win.

Kingston to New Malden ?

X26 Length 23.75 miles (38.22 km) so the average stage is 1.8 miles

You probably need to look at somewhere in the Green Belt. I've picked
(not as a candidate, but as an example) Leatherhead Rd, Chessington,
where it's almost a mile, and 3 minutes by bus, from the stop at Malden
Russet Shy Horse to the next one south. https://goo.gl/maps/UpXZG

I think that should only be counted if there are no other bus stops on
the route. The OP was asking for the distance between bus stops (the
street furniture) not the longest distance between buses stopping (the
timetable).

Otherwise we get involved in things like the Oxford Tube running
non-stop from Hillingdon to Shepherds Bush.

At 8 am in the other direction it will be much longer than 3 minutes.
