Apart from falling on the floor the moment anyone uses a specified 8-bit character set. It didn't fall on the floor - its just bytes. Its how 3rd party software interprets it thats the issue. UTF8 is supported out the box by most modern linux/unix terminals & editors so character sets weren't a consideration. I'm genuinely surprised to find out that current software in 2015 still uses code pages. Couldn't be much more out of date if it used EBCDIC. Anyway, this is a discussion for another group. -- Spud |
