At last, a proposal that wasn't in the 1971 London Rail Study!

Makes a lot of sense.

Already there, you can see the trains on Eastenders…

get then to give Bromley council a great big kick up the arse and stop them
from vetoing the extension along the Catford branch.

I really can't believe that the residents of Hayes wouldn't prefer an every
5 minute service to a choice of central London destinations instead of a 15
minute service to a main line station where they have to change, just
because they lose the possibility of through services to Cannon Street.

and not to mention the possibility for a 24 hour service

Presumably that comes under the heading of proposed extensions.

it was in the original suggestion

but was taken out because Bromley didn't support it (actively discouraged
it)

The additional costs of converting 5-10 miles of over-ground line is going
to be (relatively) trivial

and the costs of the linking tunnel is going to cost considerably more to do
as a one-off, than as part of the original build

and, of course, it saves on the costs of turn around facilities at Lewisham

I'd lay money on the actual old kent road station ending up in the middle
of the 2 proposals if this extension ever gets built.

but was taken out because Bromley didn't support it (actively discouraged

I can kind of see their point. Would you really want to switch to having to
squeeze onto a tube train in the rush hour when up until now you've been used
to mainline sized trains? Also tube trains arn't fast and the journey could end
up taking somewhat longer.

you really think there's that much of a difference?

And there will be more of them (per hour) so more room for all the people at
the outlying stations

Also tube trains arn't fast and the journey could end
up taking somewhat longer.

The services are already "all stops" so I can't see it being that different

Is Lewisham in the Metropolitan Green Belt then?
