'll find your mate's vehicle is excempt from
the duty, but stil required to display a licence (tax disc) showing
the rate of duty as Nil. You'll find police cars, fire engines,
ambulances, vehicles in disabled class etc still display tax discs,
but these show that no duty is in fact paid.

my mate's van has NO tax diak but a gold crown on a green back-ground......p 46

And Liz from that big house at the end of The Mall drives around with no
number plates, as an obvious attempt to avoid the congestion charge.

but "that car "is a dream --it drives the wardens mad...as the driver can not
be touced by the law when in odd time its parked [ with -out its owner] the
warden walks up.... looks at the frount....looks at the back..... knocks at the
dirives window gets a blank stear....and said warden gets onto the police who
tell the Warden to go away..its worth paying our tax just to see the wardens
face..
