Looks like the N9 bus will do the job. I presume it will cost £1 but
don't know how often it runs.

Various ways including the Piccadilly Line of the Underground. Where in
central London do you want to go to?

and how can I get back in the night at about 2 a.m ?

Why do you want to return to Heathrow at 2 a.m.? There are no flights
scheduled to arrive or depart at that time of night.

The quickest way to get from Heathrow to central London is on the Heathrow
Express train (Cost GBP13 single). If you don't want to pay that much you
can take the underground / Metro train which is slower.

To get back at 2am, the N9 Nightbus is the only form of public transport at
that time of night (except for a taxi or minicab which would be very
expensive).

It runs from St. James Aldwych Church through Trafalgar Square and Picadilly
Circus, and then it's a very long ride (over an hour) out to the airport. It
runs every 15 minutes.

When it gets to Heathrow it runs along the northern side of the airport past
several hotels before finishing at the central Heathrow bus station.

On the plus side it only costs £1.

I don't think they let you sleep in the airport after it closes at about
midnight (unless there have been major delays and they can't put everyone in
hotels). Security will come and remove you. I think it opens again at about
5am.

If you are adventurous then good luck and have fun, but remember that London
is very big and if you get lost at night you might not get back to the
airport in time!

Also if you have bags with you you might get mugged, so you might want to
leave them at the airport 'left luggage' before you explore.

Personally I would just book into a travel lodge and sleep, but it sounds
like you have more energy than me!

Colin
