Default Earlsfield and Clapham Junction today

What was happening in the Earlsfield/Clapham Junction today? I was on a
Hampton Court - Waterloo service the afternoon. When we got to
Earlsfield there was a 450 unit with the front two carriages stopped at
the down fast platform detraining its passengers. They seemed to be
heading for another 450 stopped in the down slow platform. Then we
stopped outside Clapham Junction for about five minutes. In that time
another 450 passed slowly on the up fast, crept up to the signal, which
was a red, and then passed it very slowly.
We then started off for CJ and stopped there as per usual. There was
another unit in the adjacent platform with the indicators showing "Out
of Service". All the way to Waterloo there were trains stopped on the
down fast, presumably due to the stopped unit at Earlsfield. Strangely
there was no information up at Waterloo about anything untoward.
