That sounds like a huge improvement. I tried boarding at London Bridge
around 08:00 a few times for the Wharf but could not get on the first
two or three trains that arrived, back in 2004/5. So I used the DLR from
Bank instead, which was quite civilised by comparison.

Quite a bit. When the trains are running at 2-3 min intervals there is
now a decent amount of standing room between Waterloo and the Wharf. As
soon as the gap widens to 4 mins or more it's back to the bad old days.
