Does anyone knows how much a session ticket cost from Reading to Central London. Basically I want to travel from Reading - Paddington - London Barbicon and I want to estimate my cost of travel per month. http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ You'ld think so, wouldn't you, but no, the National Rail site does not have details of season tickets. You can instead go to http://www.swt-seasontickets.com/. You need to register for this site, but it will give you season ticket prices for pretty much any journey. I don't have a current fares book to hand, but I can tell the OP that Reading to Paddington alone cost GBP 72.90 last year. So add about 4 per cent, plus whatever the Travelcard add-on might be (I've never understood how they're calculated). That's for a 7 day season by the way. Multiply by 40 for an annual, multiply by 3.84 for a monthly. You can have any length of validity between a month and a year, with suitably tapered prices. Meanwhile, let's see what the good people at u.t.l. can tell us. -- Joyce Whitchurch, Stalybridge, UK ================================= |

I can tell you that you can use the equivalent online season ticket system from Southern at https://www.southernrailway.trainsfares.co.uk/ using these login details obtained from the exceptionally useful service BugMeNot http://www.bugmenot.com/... username: password: password ....and you can find out the prices of any monthly or longer season tickets to your hearts content. |

I'm obliged to you, sir! I have only an academic interest in the price of London area season tickets, but the BugMeNot site is a splendid idea! -- Joyce Whitchurch, Stalybridge, UK ================================= |

Sadly, the site itself turns out to be complete tripe and it doesn't work with Firefox. So, in desperation, I'll turn to the assembled scribes of uk.railway. The OP's original question was: Does anyone knows how much a session ticket cost from Reading to Central London. Has anyone at u.r got access to a current NFM and can calculate the price of a monthly season? -- Joyce Whitchurch, Stalybridge, UK ================================= |

It looks completely screwed now though, no images etc, doesn't recognise logged in user. Konqueror allows you to click a link bu tsome get some strange 404 message from some minor web server -- "Internet Information Services (IIS)" Also says "If you cannot view this page please phone this number: 0870 010 1296", which is tempting if it wasn't a premium rate number. Southern railway (linked) works, as does http://www.trainsfares.co.uk/season/...p?sitecode=SWT The OP's original question was: Does anyone knows how much a session ticket cost from Reading to Central London. London Terminals costs £292.70 - will that allow the OP to go anywhere other than Waterloo and Paddington whence the City might be walkable (e.g. Cannon Street)? Doubt it, but can't quite face looking that one up in the Routing Guide this morning... -- John Band john at johnband dot org www.johnband.org |

In message .com, at

Doubt it, but can't quite face looking that one up in the Routing Guide this morning... iirc you can take a train to Waterloo, thence via Waterloo East to London Bridge, all for the price of a "London Terminals" ticket. -- Roland Perry |

Mapped routes between Reading and London are WR, WV, WW and WX - none of which include the line through Waterloo East. The only London terminals you can use are Paddington or Waterloo - plus Olympia if you count that as a terminal. -- Stevie D \\\\\ ///// Bringing dating agencies to the \\\\\\\__X__/////// common hedgehog since 2001 - "HedgeHugs" ___\\\\\\\'/ \'///////_____________________________________________ |

Hmm, I've just gone directly to the URL I originally quoted [1] (for the Southern branded season ticket service), using Firefox, and it all works fine. https://www.southernrailway.trainsfares.co.uk/ The Southern branded online season ticket service and the SWT one are of course just two frontends to the same system. |

One of these days, someone will invent a system that allows computer users all over the world to communicate with each other and share information. Till then, I s'pose we're stuck with National Rail Enquiries. :-( -- Joyce Whitchurch, Stalybridge, UK ================================= |
