I've heard some excuses but no trains due to excessive dust following
weekend engineering work. What were they doing exactly? This is the
line that was closed completely not long ago to completely relay the
track (I think) so why didn't they do major engineering work when the
line was closed.
I wonder how much the dust cost the London economy? W&C, that would be
Metronet wouldn't it.

##### Perhaps Metronet AKA Metromess should now be known as MetroDUST

Well the drivers would have to breath the dust in, as well as the
punters, why should they, why can't Metromess get the work that they're
being very well paid to do right?

That is easily solved, give them a face mask.

The W&C is suspended again this morning (Tues 5 Dec).

"Suspended due to emergency engineering works" according to LU.
Did the Hoover break down?

Drivers on the Vic have been banned from wearing face
masks....apparently it sends out the wrong image!

But if there was a SPAD, surely the train would have been tripped as trains
on that line have armed tripcocks. Do they not inspect them on a regular
basis?

They could have ordered restricted speed, were it not for the fact that the
dust on the platform could have caused various other problems.

Visability was reduced in the tunnels following Rail Grinding work over
the weekend that meant Train Operators couldn't see the signals. There
is then the risk of a SPAD (passing a signal at danger/red) and the
possibilty of a collision with an obstruction - or a train.
The Peak Time number of trains in service are 4 on the Waterloo & City.

Is excessive dust the underground equivalent of the wrong kind of snow?

It was rather amusing on phoning the LU recorded information line that
morning to check how services are running to hear the note of
incredulity in the voice of the announcer. There was an audible pause,
and bemused tone between the words "excessive" and "dust" in the
announcement "The W&C line is closed due to excessive dust". Clearly
he'd never heard of it either.

Each day a man watched a donkey walk past a high wood fence with one
plank removed. Each day he saw a nose, then the ears, then the neck,
forequarters, back and finally the tail. He pondered this for a time
and eventually declared. “I understand now. The nose causes the tail”
