In a number yesterdays Evening Standard and todays Times they had what
looked to be the same photo of the tube in a snowy scene. Am I right in
saying they were two Northern Line trains passing each other? Not sure
whereabouts on the line they are though.

Oh any idea where?

If it's the one I saw of two 73 stock trains - near Osterley they said.
It looked like looking east from a bridge just east of Osterley & Spring
Grove (disused) station. If course, it all looks the same in the snow;)

But anyway what would I know, I only drive along that bit twice a day!

Yes, I think you're right. I had thought it was the other side of
Osterley station, but looking at it on Google Earth, I now realise that
the bridges don't match there. But looking east from Ridgeway Road
North, the view matches exactly if you set the altitude low enough (say
100 - 200 ft). The next bridge is Wood Lane, and there are two beyond
that(visible at any rate in the Evening Standard's full page-width
photo) which are Syon Lane and one in Wyke Green Golf Club (the course
is on both sides of the line). Are trains ever hit by golf balls there?

Never had one myself, but I have seen a few trackside.

Highgate?

There is no surface-level tube service at Highgate. AFAIK, there hasn't been
since the '60s, although somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.

There never has been a surface-level *tube* at the present Highgate
station. Trains, yes, but not tube services. There were plans underway
to convert the then existing rail line but they were abandoned after
WW2. However, there is a tube depot in Highgate, although this is
accessed from East Finchley on a separate surface line.

It looks lovely.

It's the Piccadilly Line at Osterley, as stated by the caption in
yesterday's Evening Standard. Rather ironic, as that section is
maintained by Tube Lines and doesn't seem to have been affected as
various Metronet locations were.

I saw that Tubelines managed to f**k-up the Jubilee line with no
service between North Greenwich and Stratford due to signal failure.
Great considering that they wasted their time cancelling engineering
work so that they could run sleet trains.
Still I suppose they did have the best of intentions.

There's this slightly blurry one that my wife took at South Woodford
station that morning.

No doubt there are plenty more snowy tube scenes from last Thursday
elsewhere on Flickr and similar sites.
