It's not on the actual list, though. What puzzles me is why John doesn't
add it himself - does he perhaps not understand that Wikipedia is
publically editable?

Well, i say it's not on the list - i mean it wasn't; it is now, due to the
actions of a kind knowledgeable soul in the last few hours. Aah, internet.

He probably meant someone more knowledgeable about Brockley Station to
get the facts right. Similarly, I notice that it doesn't mention that
the line was built on the Croydon Canal, but I don't know enough about
that, dates etc, to be able to add anything myself.

A good resource for information on London Canals (including the Croydon)
can be found he

You don't need to know everything to make a contribution - that's the
beauty of wikipedia. If you know a little more than what's there, add it;
if enough people do that, you end up with a lot of information.

For example, you just add the fact that the line was built on the route of
the canal, then someone comes along later, sees that, and either thinks
"true, but it doesn't give any detail, and i know about this, so i'll add
it" or "wow, i didn't know that, i'll go and read up on it, then come back
and add what i find". Incremental improvement!

So you came to the conclusion that I might not know Wikipedia is publicly
editable, as a result of me asking the public to edit it? Are you on drugs?

I've made numerous additions to Wikipedia, but in this case, I didn't see
the point in adding a row which contained nothing but the name of the
station, which was pretty much all I knew. Whoever added the row, well done.

I thought maybe you thought you had to be a registered user to do so or
something. It did seem a rather unlikely thing for you to believe, but i
was stuck for other good explanations!

Of the columns in the table, the name, place, management, station code,
zone, line and grid reference would have been easy enough to find out with
a bit of googling. If you know the area, local authority too, and if you
know the station, the number of platforms. Annual entry/exit would have
taken a bit more work - we had the relevant document floating about here
not long ago, i think. The opening date is the only thing that needs a
specialist source, so a post asking "can someone tell me when Brockley
station opened?" rather than "can someone edit this page on wikipedia for
me?" would have done!

Whoever added the row, well done.

Indeed. It was one P. Ingerson, i believe - three cheers!
