I joined this group today thinking that there might be a discussion on
the announcement that they are going to stop the A.M. tidal-flow
indefinitely but, as I haven't spotted anything here, you might find
this of interest ....

There's also a pop-up message here ....

I was just thinking of posting a question about what it is like
southbound in the morning now. I avoid it but now wonder if it is
worth considering at around 7.30. Coming across Tower Bridge and going
through Southwark and Depford is worse due to the extra traffic
headinf for the Rotherhithe.

Aren't their plans for a congestion charge through the Blackwall Tunnel?
Probably this is a means of creating the congestion to justify it....

Yesterday morning on LBC radio Ken Livingstone said he took this
decision based on advice by the police that there had been an increase
in the number of people trying to overtake in the tunnel when the
contra-flow was in operation and that there is a current directive to
end two-way working in road tunnels. When subsequently quizzed about
the Rotherhithe Tunnel (which has permanent two-way working) he said
he may have to do the same there if he is advised to do so.

Where will this end? Is he going to stop two way working on single
carriageway roads?!?!

I guess a head-on crash and subsequent fire/smoke is rather more
dangerous in a tunnel under the Thames than on the average street.

So they take the security camera footage, identify the car doing it,
then get the police to stop the car on exit and arrest the driver for
dangerous driving.

And to think that the northbound bore was bi-directional and before
they raised the road surface was narrower than it is currently.
