: If that's really the case then they should close all of central London. There is no particular reason that another bomb should be within 200 yards of the Mercedes. A typical Al Quaeda plot would involve multiple bombs, but spread over several miles. And it turns out the second bomb WAS within 200 yards. Sitting down in Cockspur Street, probably an area where people would have been evacuated to had the first one gone off. Except that they'd parked it illegally and it had been towed to just off Park Lane. Iain |

We were joking at work about a case where a car bomb hadn't paid the congestion charge, towed to a carpark miles away, and ended up blowing up in a deserted car pound ![]() |

There are plenty of routes to the west, for example: West Carriage Drive (Hyde Park) or Kensington Church Street or Holland Road / Addison Road (A3220 West Cross Route) The *really* important question is whether you get let off the congestion charge when the filth divert you off the free roads. -- David Cantrell | A machine for turning tea into grumpiness Computer Science is about lofty design goals and careful algorithmic optimisation. Cantrell writes The *really* important question is whether you get let off the congestion charge when the filth divert you off the free roads. According to the CC FAQ: If you are diverted into the charging zone by an official diversion or by a police officer, you do not have to pay a Congestion Charge. You must ensure that you leave the Charging Zone as directed by the diversion, or, if no signage is provided, at the first available opportunity. If you enter the Charging Zone at any other time during the same day, or deviate from the diversion, you will need to pay the Congestion Charge. Transport for London (TfL) will endeavour to ensure that all vehicles subject to a diversion will not receive a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN). In the event that a PCN is received, TfL will consider any representation against a PCN issued in such circumstances. Full details of the diversion should be included in the representation. -- Paul Terry |

According to the CC FAQ: If you are diverted into the charging zone by an official diversion or by a police officer, you do not have to pay a Congestion Charge. This diversion exemption is rarely used. When Scrubs Lane was closed "by an incident" (guns) recently, buses did divert off the Harrow Rd via Ladbroke Grove and out North Pole Rd. The rest of traffic was left to its own wits and not diverted into the Ken-zone leading to many bad jams. Also, the record for the first such diversion from Tower Bridge was poor: all diverted drivers were automatically ticketed and had to fight for the supposed diversion exemption. Methinks it all sucks, there's no official effort by the looks of it to cater for such situations. Compare with the system in Oslo.. NOK20 per entry = GBP2 give or take, and local employment at the toll gates. I think I know which system I prefer. -- Old anti-spam address cmylod at despammed dot com appears broke So back to cmylod at bigfoot dot com |
