Presumably because Chiltern have enough non-RMT drivers to be able to run the Aylesbury via Amersham service. They also run over a non-Metronet route (the route via High Wycombe), so they can stick all the RMT drivers on that one. Also, AIUI there isn't a very high proportion of RMT drivers on National Rail compared to LUL - they're mostly ASLEF (I might be completely wrong on that - it's from memory rather than Sourced Fact). I don't know what the situation is like now - but about twelve or fifteen years ago the Chiltern line was a-typical to the rest of the system, in that it had a very high proportion of RMT drivers (they might still have been NUR then), rather than ASLEF men. I recall happily travelling to and from work during one dispute, when most of the national network was at a standstill, due to "the wrong type of union". |
