Whites not welcome in Transport for London

The job is for “Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Students” and continues: “We are offering two six-month internships starting in March 2008. If you are a student or a recent graduate of Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic (BAME) origin, with a passion for London and an interest in media and PR, we would like to hear from you.” I did see this in the Metro, and I found it utterly, utterly offensive that it can be permitted to restrict access to anything at all by race. Not a view shared by the OP from the BNP who would like to restrict access to the whole country by race ... I agree that classifying people by race is the problem rather than the solution and I wish TfL hadn't done it. But I can believe that the problem that they were trying to address in this misguided way was real, unlike the straw men invented by the BNP to whip up hatred. |

and the phrase a "hung parliament" might yet take on
a new meaning. http://www.bnp.org.uk/2008/01/racistmonthly.htm Why are BNP members always so obsessed with penis size? |

The time is coming soon when these traitors will be held responsible
for their crimes, and the phrase a "hung parliament" might yet take on a new meaning. http://www.bnp.org.uk/2008/01/31/not-enough-fascists... To me, that looks like you are glorifying terror. Which is now a criminal offence. |

An advertisement for a Press Internship with Transport London has been advertised - but only ethnic minorities are allowed to apply, and Whites are specifically banned from the job. It's not a job, it's a training opportunity. That's the only reason it's allowed. You seem to think that good race relations are those dictated by law. It may be legal, but is it right? Have you no moral code of your own? Apartheid was legal in South Africa, does this mean it was OK? If you don't like the Race Relations Act 1976, go and discuss it in uk.politics.misc. Follow-up set. -- Richard J. (to e-mail me, swap uk and yon in address) They are not working/training for free. Summer jobs for students should not be exempt from the law, IMO. Most office jobs now have a training element and pay at the subsistence level. So are most jobs "training opportunities"? Follow-up fixed. |

Have you no moral code of your own? Apartheid was legal in South Africa, does this mean it was OK? European convention on Human Rights, Article 2, 14: http://www.hri.org/docs/ECHR50.html ARTICLE 2 No person shall be denied the right to education. In the exercise of any functions which it assumes in relation to education and to teaching, the State shall respect the right of parents to ensure such education and teaching in conformity with their own religions and philosophical convictions. ARTICLE 14 The enjoyment of the rights and freedoms set forth in this Convention shall be secured without discrimination on any ground such as sex, race, colour, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, association with a national minority, property, birth or other status. So the race relations act seems against this? Would love to read about a test case.... If you don't like the Race Relations Act 1976, go and discuss it in uk.politics.misc. |
