Default London Taxi Question

I've been meaning to ask this here for ages, if not *years*!

What are those orange and yellow "target" like things one sometimes (but
not always) sees on the front nearside wing of London taxis?

Ian Jelf gurgled happily, sounding much like
they were saying:

I've always assumed they signify that the cabby's a member of one of the
phone-a-cab networks. BICBW.

It signifies they are part of Computercab. You can see them on the
changing pix at the top of http://www.computercab.co.uk

Make you wonder if they take Oyster! :-)

Thanks, everyone. For all the chaff that flies about on it, Usenet can
be great sometimes, can't it?

Arriva used to have a hand in the car hire business until 2006...

Telegraph story:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/2...ental-arm.html

Independent story:
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/1099625.html

The latter mentions the car dealerships, a vestige of an earlier phase
of the company when it was T Cowie Group - is Arriva still in that
business too?

The bullseye is there because disabled people wishing to flag down a taxi in
which they can use their Taxicard need a taxi which is on Comcab.

I'm pretty sure they've divested all the cowie stuff - van leasing etc.,
too - with the possible exception of their DAF bus import dealership.

That was still active until 2007 - it supplied buses on Arriva's route 393 -
but a glance at their website shows a painfully aged bus, and still shows a
2007 date!

Presumably that was their vampire-hunting subsidiary.
