"Perfick", beautiful. These remind me of my teenage years in London.
The '38 stock was truly iconic.

I saw the Standard stock in NSE. Must say that it seemed to work to my eye.
I find the yellow front, just a solid colour block set against the red quite
overwhelming. A little bit of lining and styling to soften the edginess I
think would serve the stock well. The fronts used to be red, so perhaps the
yellow could actually be made into 3 rounded cornered rectangles occupying
most of the front surface.

Yet the busiest sector of the Island Line - by far - is the one
between Ryde Pier and Ryde Esplanade.

Have they thought of perhaps running some sort of shuttle service from
Ryde Pier Head to Ryde Esplanade, allowing passengers to transfer to
other rolling stock? My guess is that this would not really be
feasible, however.

There used to be a tramway shuttle that did exactly that back in the dim
and distant. The tracks were between the railway line proper and the
roadway out to the pierhead.

Something like the Hythe Pier Railway?

IIRC both utilised petrol engined traction.

Why don't they do that, if corrosion is going to be such a concern on newer
models?

You've still got corosion problems for a tram, if you can solve that you can
presumably solve it for a train.

You know, a horse-drawn wooden tram (I originally wrote wooden horse tram,
hmmm ... ) would be very much a touristy, novelty thing. No problems with
tripcocks, corrosion - well it can be dealt with. If Victor Harbour in South
Australia can have one out across a jetty/bridge/pier type structure, so can
the Isle of Wight. Of course, the animal libbers could end up lying across
the tracks - unless you perhaps had a lovely Clydesdale there with a brewery
dray and a nice drop on tap!! In which case they'd still be lying across the
tracks, paralytic rather than politic.

The trouble is the island beer is much what you would expect from a
Clydesdale :-(

I've now posted the promised pics of the Standard Stock (class 485) on the
island. Also a couple of shots of the 1938 stock in Network South East
livery.

Are you suggesting animal libbers are discerning about their ales?

I doubt there are many scrap value 70 year old
trams for cheap sale like their were tube trains

Budapest's BKV are in the process of modernising their hideously
antiquated tram & metro system - most of the (soon-to-be) redundant
stock is approaching 70 years old ...

Pount taken. I wish they did not have the yellow ends.
