Chelsea played Arsenal at the non-Highbury Library on Sunday. At about
17:30 there was a signal failure at that crucial station of Covent
Garden. There was no service between Hyde Park Corner and King's
Cross. The Arsenal fans were sent all over the shop because they were
definitely not given the correct info. Fans trying to enter Arsenal
were told to go to Finsbury Park, only to find that Finsbury Park had
itself shut.

The Station Supervisor at Arsenal station was exacty as useful as a
fart in a spacecuit.

I was at the game. Announcements were given out over the stadium PA
system right at the end of the game, though apart from it mentioning
the Piccadilly line I didn't hear the rest of the message - I did
however assume that the northern end of the Pic was screwed (i.e. no
service from Arsenal and Finsbury Park stations), which was an
incorrect assumption.

Anyway, I headed down Holloway Road to Highbury & Islington for the
Victoria line (usual route if heading back by Tube) and everything was
fine. Anyone who hasn't clocked this route really should - it pretty
much always works.

Surprised to read that both Arsenal and Finsbury Park stations closed
- I guess I can understand Arsenal closing, what with the slower
throughput of trains given that the central section of the Pic was
severed, but I'm curious as to why Finsbury Park closed. Was it simply
a temporary measure whilst the crowds cleared? In which case that's
nothing unusual at all.

I've never seen so many people empty out of Ashburton Grove early as
they did after Chelsea's fourth goal. Lots of displeased Gooners...
including me. Took a comprehensive thrashing.

Good cooperation between Arsenal and TfL there.

TfL - "Can you let a few goals in so that the crowd disperses gradually?
We've got a few problems"

Arsenal FC - "Happy to be of assistance"...

Appparently Newcastle Utd have been helping the Metro in this way all
season...
