A police case against a Tube employee who was accused of trying to sell her
official London Underground hat on the internet has been criticised by
unions. Alex Wood was arrested then suspended from her job as a station
assistant at Waterloo station for eight weeks. A charge of theft was dropped
last Friday after four court hearings.

The RMT's Bobby Law said: "Finding a London Underground hat in the locker of
a London Underground employee at a London Underground station is an
astounding piece of police work."

The RMT said as of next week wearing a uniform hat will no longer be
compulsory.

The British Transport Police said: "We take this issue very seriously as
items of uniform can be of assistance to terrorists and other criminals.
"The member of staff was treated correctly and in line with normal
procedures throughout her detention."

The court dismissed the charges because there was no confirmation from the
website eBay available at that time that the items had been on their
website.
