Is this legal? - sec 17 of the NR COC

(c) one of the tickets is a season ticket, and the other ticket(s) is/are not. Aren't both of them season tickets? I guess rule (b) applies anyhow, the train does stop at the point where the ticket changes. If you had separate Potters Bar to Finsbury Park and R12 Travelcards then, yes, they are both season tickets. So (c) is *NOT* applicable. This thread referred to the combination of two annual tickets, one a point to point "season" and the second a zonal "period travelcard". My TOC (WAGN) have confirmed that the TfL ticket (Oyster Z12) is not a "season ticket" as referred to in section 17 of the conditions of carriage, it's a period travelcard. The combination of a point to point "season" and a "zonal period travelcard" which swap over somewhere the train doesn't actually stop is permitted. This was moot point for me anyway since I did it at a stop where all my trains call but may be useful to others. I renewed last week saving £370 by buying tickets this way, thanks to the original poster for the information! Cheers, Dave I'm sure this is legal, but just thought it might be a good idea to check before I advise someone else I know to do it! By default, when buying a season ticket from outside London you get an 'all zones' travelcard (R1256) with it. For example, I travel in from Brookmans Park. The monthly cost of a Brookmans Park - London (zones 1256) ticket is £207.40. However, I'm only commuting into central london, so don't need all the extra zoens - I get off at a zone one station. Therefore it is cheaper for me to split the ticket in two and buy two separate tickets: Brookmans Park - Finsbury Park (which is where I change onto LUL and is a station inside zone 2) - £100.30 Zone 1+2 Travelcard / month - £77.60 Saving about 30 quid a month. There's nothing wrong with doing this is there? James |
