Aren't both of them season tickets? I guess rule (b) applies

anyhow, the
train does stop at the point where the ticket changes.

If you had separate Potters Bar to Finsbury Park and R12 Travelcards
then, yes, they are both season tickets. So (c) is *NOT* applicable.

This thread referred to the combination of two annual tickets, one a
point to point "season" and the second a zonal "period travelcard".

My TOC (WAGN) have confirmed that the TfL ticket (Oyster Z12) is not a
"season ticket" as referred to in section 17 of the conditions of
carriage, it's a period travelcard. The combination of a point to point
"season" and a "zonal period travelcard" which swap over somewhere the
train doesn't actually stop is permitted. This was moot point for me
anyway since I did it at a stop where all my trains call but may be
useful to others.

I renewed last week saving £370 by buying tickets this way, thanks to
the original poster for the information!

Cheers,
Dave

I'm sure this is legal, but just thought it might be a good idea to
check before I advise someone else I know to do it!

By default, when buying a season ticket from outside London you get an
'all zones' travelcard (R1256) with it. For example, I travel in from
Brookmans Park.

The monthly cost of a Brookmans Park - London (zones 1256) ticket is
£207.40.

However, I'm only commuting into central london, so don't need all the
extra zoens - I get off at a zone one station. Therefore it is cheaper
for me to split the ticket in two and buy two separate tickets:

Brookmans Park - Finsbury Park (which is where I change onto LUL and is

a station inside zone 2) - £100.30
Zone 1+2 Travelcard / month - £77.60

Saving about 30 quid a month. There's nothing wrong with doing this is
there?

James

A Period Travelcard isn't a season ticket? I think they are using weasel
words to modify legal definitions to suit their own pocket.

Found the TfL Conditions of Carriage
http://www.tfl.gov.uk/pdfdocs/nconditions.pdf which define a "season ticket"
as a point to point ticket between certain stations on LU across a zone
boundry and is valid for unlimited travel between the stations as shown on
the ticket.

It says a "period travelcard" is a zonal ticket valid for unlimited travel
on LU, Tram, DLR, NR within the zones on the ticket and on all buses.

So there is a difference, though not sure why they define it.

Cheers,
Dave

Becuase:

There are a few short-haul point-to-point seasons still available on
LUL which do not have multi-modal validlity.

The zonal system is simple to follow but not necessarily fair for the vast
majority of travellers who follow one route to work and the same one home.
Probably like most I do use the travelcard aspect on occasions but I'd
probably be financially better off if I could buy a ticket between two named
stations and do the rest on PAYG. The zonal gives you some protection
against problems on one line, but in that case adjacent lines accept tickets
anyhow.

Are there many point to point seasons available still on LU?

Cheers,
Dave

This is:

Page 22 printed/12 of PDF:

"Tube only short distance season tickets

Available for some shorter journeys across a
zone boundary between specific Tube stations."
