Cheers all! Weirdly, today I was sent up to without my normal sprinter van.
Found out the terminus station from here is Charing Cross. Had a parcel to
drop off at Berkeley Square. I quite enjoyed the walk through town. I'm
normally the typical, hurried white van man. It was good to hit the Sushi
shop in Piccadilly....
Anyway, thanks for the excellent bus advice. The day will go much
smoother.. ) (Cirque de Soleil )

Quite a sensible one, though - Albert Hall is rather a long way from any
Tube, alas, but is walkable from South Kensington Station (which is on
the District and Circle lines, a straight run from either Charing Cross
or Victoria).

Ha! Someone else who, like me, still has to think twice to remember
that Charing Cross got renamed Embankment!

So it did.... I was thinking "From Charing Cross station", but of course
the Underground station there isn't actually on the District or Circle.

Trains from Folkestone don't come into Victoria.

Catch the train from Folkestone to Charing Cross. Walk to Trafalgar
Square
and take the no 9 bus from Stop S all the way to the Royal Albert Hall.

I believe that Stop S is to the north-east of the square - the opposite
corner from Charing Cross, but look at the map on any of the bus stops
outside Charing Cross Station to find its exact location.

Walk out of Charing Cross Station and catch a number 9 Bus (showing the
destination "Hammersmith") from the stop on the Strand, on the same side
as the station.

You'll need to buy a ticket from the machine at the stop before boarding
(GBP 1.10, exact money needed), unless you've bought a Travelcard as
part of your train ticket.

Sorry, it's £1.20 cash now :-/

The 9 will drop you right at the Albert Hall and the journey time,
depending in traffic, should be about 20-25 minutes.

And it's generally a very pleasant journey, passing through Trafalgar
Square, Piccadilly Circus, down Piccadilly, round Hyde Park Corner and
through Knightsbridge. A whole section of London sights in a short bus
journey!

My apologies. Typo!

I couldn't agree more. The 9, 11 and 15 are as good a way of exploring
London as any I know (well, apart from guided walks but modesty
forbids!).

They would have been ideal candidates for the proposed RM Heritage
Route.

Hi all...
Only ever having driven in London and facing a trip to the
Albert Hall from Kent this Saturday by public transport, what's the best
tube to emerge from? Plan so far is to leap on a train here in Folkestone,
find out what station I arrive at in London and dive down the nearest tube
and navigate by a handy leaflet I pick up.

Not much of a plan I know... ;o)
