Default Route 141 and 29

I got this email this morning from TfL:

---
"I am writing to let you know that from Saturday 14 January 2006, route
141 will be extended from Wood Green to Palmers Green, replacing route
29 over this section.

Brand new bendy buses will be introduced on route 29 and N29. Bendy
buses do not accept cash, so please pay before you board when using
this service."
---

Now, the 141 goes past my front door (Southgate Road) and I've given up
on trying to catch it to get to work (London Bridge) since I have so
far never succeeded in actually getting on the bus before 9.30am as the
driver doesn't stop because the bus is full (or if he does stop to let
a few people off, he doesn't let anyone on).

Since the 141 is now being run on an extended route, does this mean
it's only going to get worse, or is the 141 going to get some of route
29's old buses to compensate? In reality, the 141 seems horribly over
subscribed and needs an awful lot more buses on the route. Although the
timetable reckons it is more frequent than the 76, this doesn't seem to
be the case in reality as far as I have experienced!

David.

Route 21 (currently Moorgate - London Bridge- Lewisham) is being
re-extended* to start from Newington Green as well as these 29 and 141
changes. The idea is that there should be noticeably more capacity south of
Newington Green.

[* Pre-WW2 the 21 ran from Wood Green to Lewisham/Farningham.]

So I ought to be getting route 21 down my road as well... great. I hope
it makes a difference! It's pretty dire at the moment!

Well, it's been a week and the difference has been remarkable. I tried
a bus at 8am, and got on to it no problems. I then tried one at 9am
another day, and again - got on no problems (this was previously
unthinkable).

This morning, I decided on the dicey tactic of trying to get on the bus
at 8.30 - and I managed to get on a 141, but only just. The driver
pretty much had people on his lap!

It seems to be an awful lot better than before. Well done, somone!

The bus garage is a dumb place to terminate the 141 though, It's one stop
short of the library, two stops short of the train station and three stops
short of the main Palmers Green shopping area. There is a long-unused bus
terminus at the junction of Hedge Lane and Green Lanes.

That's why my vehicle's the Piccadilly Line -
It's the size of a county and it comes every two and a half minutes
