It is rather gusty. It strikes me you are but 4.5 miles from Heathrow,
so weather conditions can't be too different.

Yes, it was very windy about 7 am, and raining when I walked to
work at 7:30. Later we had several very heavy thundershowers. The
weather in Geneva is not a reliable indication of that at LHR, though...

see in the autumn all day.

According to BBC News just now, yes, there were rather bad cross-winds.
It's also blowing a gale here... it was rather difficult to keep my
(high-sided) car in a straight line earlier on.

Not exceptionally windy, but quite a gusty crosswind. At 13:00 it was
south-westerly 18 knots gusting to 31 knots. Later in the afternoon
when I saw other planes using the same runway, it was 22 knots gusting
to 35, and some of the approaches were quite interesting.
