Yes. If you already have a Zone 1-6 Travelcard then you can buy a cheap
day return from Boundary Zone 6 to, say, Windsor and Eton Central. I
believe this will be cheaper than a ticket to Windsor and Eton Riverside.

Outward travel not valid before 09:30. Travel not valid on certain
services departing London Paddington between 1600-1915.

station, as our hotel is around the corner.

Those are the Southwest Trains services to Windsor and Eton Riverside.
Looks like they leave at :28 and :58 after most hours. There's currently
a special combined train/castle admission ticket (if that's where you're
going) on SWT but I don't know if that will work with a BZ6 ticket or not.
