Proposed ticket office closures on the tube

I looked back a couple of weeks and didn't see a thread about this, so
thought I'd start one. LUL are planning to cut ticket office opening

You'll know how busy your own local ticket office gets, and how this
may affect you, so its up to your judgement what you wanna do about
it, but here's some places to send your views.

Write to your MP c/o House of Commons, London SW1A 0AA.
Write to Ken Livingstone c/o City Hall, The Queens Walk, London SE1

Contact the RMT about their campaign to be kept up to date of what
they're doing about it... c/o Unity House, 39 Charlton Street, London,

Thats the info as I've seen it published. All I can see is that
closures will leave Oyster users (who do have problems from *time to
time*) with no direct port of call to resolve problems... and then
there's the people who DON'T have Oysters, who will be left to fend
for themselves. I'm not going to try and start a political debate
here, just providing information for you to do as you wish.

It's been mentioned before. When Theydon bois's only Oyster ticket
machine is broken (which frequently happens), you can allegedly top up
and pay at your destination.

The main beneift is, instead of a staffed ticket office window, you
have a guy or 3 sat in the ticket office reading the paper or talking.
They are helpful when you attract their attention, however they aren't
allowed to sell you a ticket (I don't think they even have a machine)

I don't recall using a ticket office in 20 years of travel on the tube!

Also, the new H&C Wood Lane station is planned to open without a ticket
office.

Will it have passive provision for one?

No. Just Passenger Operated Machines and a Station Supervisors Office.

Does this mean that closure of the ticket office means the whole station is
unmanned? Reference to a supervisors office in Wood Lane suggests there
will still be people present on each station, simply that the ticket office
will be closed. If people are to be present are they able to provide help
with the ticket machines?

From my observations, ticket machines are never left unattended. When a
station is unmanned the gates are left open.

I know that at least some (all?) stations must be closed if there is not
a staff member present. There is no requirement that the ticket office
be open.
