Default Tube Lines Could Be Sponsored To Reduce Fares

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-22745677

Saw this article on the BBC website.

Whilst it will probably never come to fruition, does anyone have any amusing suggestions regarding renamings for stations and lines?

The "Metro" line.

Fifty years too late: The District Bank Line.

Gerry Cottle's Circle Line.

Rename Vauxhall as "Opel Station".

Grieg's Bakers Street.

Perhaps the Tolstoy estate would be interested in a Warren Peace Street.

I suppose one of the stations at the eastern end of the District Line could be named Walford East, after the fictional station in Eastenders.

Or St Johns Wood could be renamed Abbey Road, after the well known zebra crossing.

Or Chelsea FC might wish to rename Fulham Broadway as Stamford Bridge

I agree that it is a daft idea to rename stations and lines - it will confuse Londoners and tourists alike. A station name has to give some indication of the area that it is in, so that there is only a limited scope for renaming in any case.

Mind you Boris has said that Crossrail should be called the "Queen Elizabeth Line" today.

Arsenal to change Arsenal to Emirates.

West Ham to change Upton Park to Olympic Park.

Osterley renamed Austerity.

Barons Court becomes Barons Caught.

Funny I thought it was called Crossrail which is a very long standing
name which people seem to understand.

Is there any precedent for naming what is really a National Rail
service, albeit procured by TfL? Only LU has named lines.

Thameslink on NR

Boris's suggestion will simply become the "Queenie Tube" or "Lizzie
Line" or somesuch. The proposed name is too long - tube lines are
nearly always named with a single word (Victoria) or composite
(Bakerloo). East London had some geographic reasoning as did
Hammersmith and City although that's a recent invention.

Jubilee Line?
