And a Happy Hogmanay for our Scottish correspondents.

And an annual reminder - be careful if you over-indulge in "liquids",
for it might turn into a Nappy New Year.

I'm just back from Cuba, where just about every drink (apart from beer)
can, if you wish, be enhanced with a healthy infusion of local vitamin R.
With PiƱa Coladas, most bars let you add as much Vitamin R (of the dark or
white varieties) as you like. The other two popular local vitamin drinks
are B (Bucanero) and C (Cristal).

Thank you!

And a Merry Midwinter, Happy Christmas, and prosperous New Year
likewise from me to all fellow enthusiasts, and railway operators,
and the many staff who make it all work - especially those who will
need to be at work during the festive period.

Seconded.

It is good to be living again in a railway boom time, where the
desperate campaigns to save local lines of 30 years ago have
given way to grand investment, new trains galore, and a seemingly
ever-growing number of passengers carried.

My post was international in scope. But, on the UK front, one has to
agree things have moved a long way since the last Beeching Closure.

That said it would be good to see the Waverly Route opened all the
way. And there are a number of other closed routes that should be
restored. Upgrading the GW route to its former glory would be
wonderful. A branch from Banbury to parking garages by the M45 near
Rugby, as promised by Chiltern would be very nice.

In those United States rail is far from a renaissance. Only a handful
of states are moving things along. Among those California shines as a
flag carrier for rail improvement. In the fair county of Los Angeles
two new light rail routes will open in 2016. Moreover, the first
piles have been driven for the light rail downtown connector, and the
subway extension to the ocean, well Westwood at least. :-)

To all who made and make it possible - Salute!

Thank you indeed.
