GOBLIN 172s: where do they go during their hols?

No, another week yet. No, it's closed for the whole three-day Bank holiday weekend starting tomorrow, as part of the project. It was open yesterday (Sat 28th), as I took advantage of travelling on it for the first time during my day out in London. |

I'm sure I'd read somewhere that it was closed the whole weekend (I'd wanted to travel on Monday). Did you share my impression that the 172s look and sound in very good condition? They seemed almost showroom fresh. |

Doesn't the latter require doubling Ely-Soham? Maybe but not seen it stated though. -- Colin Rosenstiel |

That's the situation when the line reopens in February. The work won't be finished and the lines energised for at least another four months, during which time ....they will get nicked and sold for scrap. Madness. Neil -- Neil Williams Put my first name before the @ to reply. |

I've said before that on this route the three stations
at which large numbers board and alight are Barking, Blackhorse Road and Gospel Oak. Now that the truncated service is operating between South Tottenham and Gospel Oak, two of those stations are not generating any custom. I travelled from Gospel Oak to South Tottenham today in the early afternoon. The train was almost empty. At South Tottenham four passengers alighted. |

From 22.00 hours tonight until early on Monday morning,
Holloway Road will be closed to facilitate replacing the road bridge at Upper Holloway Station. In the Leyton/Leytonstone area there is little evidence of any progress being made with this electrification project. I hope it's still on schedule and will be completed by the end of February but I'm beginning to have doubts. No masts and no overhead cables are to be seen but plenty of sturdy vegetation is sprouting from railway brickwork. Network Rail really should do something about this. Allowing brickwork to be damaged in this way constitutes negligence. |

Ah! A sign of progress. The first mast - goalpost and
cross bar format - has been installed at Leyton Midland Road Station. Just one, all by itself. And the line is scheduled to re-open in eight weeks time. |
