There is a new sign at Pinner tube station - all it indicates is Southbound
trains and the time and there is one on the other platform that says
Northbound trains and the time. It does not give a list of the next
train.....so whats the point? Surely people know which is north and south
bound side was it really worth putting in the sign. Would it not be better
used if it said when the next train was?

Give it a while... I suspect some part of the information system has not
been installed yet. The Central Line system did that on every platform for
ages until they got it all working, but it works now.

This will be in a "few" years time!

These are part of the Infraco's station modernisation/refurbishment
works that they must complete within the first 7 years of the PPP
Contract. Eventually these will be connected to the new signalling and
control system when this is built. It is expected that in 2008/9,
Amersham, Rickmansworth and Rayners Lane signal cabins are transferred
to an "interim" computerised signalling control room.

Until then they won't tell you much more than what line your on and the
time!

were ready.

But their contract says they must do it now or they won't get paid!

No doubt they are on 24/7 - what a waste of electricity.

And one of the company's that run Metronet is....err..... French State
Owned edf (electricite de France), who also run the (25years left)
Powerlink PFI to supply electricity to the Underground

Metronet can't even get this right then! The signs are presumably LED
based, and therefore quite low in the power consumption stakes. If they
were trying to 'spend' more electricity, they should have thought of
that.

On FCC, I'm still waiting for the 317 signs to do anything more than
tell the time. National Express ordered and fitted the screens, but
nobody ordered the software (by the time the screens were in, they had
already lost the franchise). First has now ordered it but I still have
no firm date for when it will be installed and activated. Mind you,
look how long it took for the Piccadilly Line screens to show anything
useful (and they're still not all upgraded yet).
