Default DLR - Stratford International construction contract

The contract for the main works from Stratford International to Canning Town
(except for the flyover junctions) has just been awarded to
Skanska/Grantrail.

http://developments.dlr.co.uk/extens...ails.asp?id=38

Without repeating the arguments about the neccessity of the North Woolwich
closure, is there any practical reason why the line couldn't have remained
in use for the last 6 months?

At a guess because of:

"A separate £39m contract comprising the extension's enabling works,
which included track alignment and the construction of the foundations
and shell of the Docklands Light Railway Stratford International
station, was similarly awarded to a Skanska and GrantRail joint
venture in January 2007."

In other words, the contractors have been doing preliminary work on
the old NLL line since it closed, and have now been awarded the main
building phase as well.

I don't think anything has been done at all south of Stratford Regional, the
earlier contract is all at the Stratford International site, isn't it?
Perhaps someone nearer to what's going on could clarify...

There was a third contract, awarded to Atkins, for "termination of the
North London Line". I imagine that means removal of track, signalling,
lineside equipment, buildings, etc. Work began on this in January.

Perhaps someone nearer to what's going on could clarify...

I've not been there, but the DLR website mentioned earlier says that
Atkins finished their de-commissioning work last week.
