Yes, very much so - for example, Barclays have been issuing their debit (and
credit) cards with Visa payWave as standard for some time now:

Barclays are very much the pioneers here - in May they said their cards
(both debit and credit) represented 85% of all contactless cards in the UK:

We were about to embark at Dover, when (Roland Perry)
came up to me and whispered:

I remember having to seek out Amex branded ATMs (in the USA) to
draw cash on an Amex card. There's one at Schiphol Airport today.
Maybe there's more interoperability here - I did use an Amex card
in a Natwest ATM last year.

In theory, ANY card should work in ANY cash machine in the UK - there is
theoretical 100% inter-operability.

mine does is interfere with my Oyster card. It would have been nice if

Paywave logo.

All mine does is interfere with my Oyster card. It would have been

My Paywave Visa Credit card combined with Oyster doesn't interfere with
each other (almost by definition).

My "Oyster" is actually a Freedom Pass, so that option isn't available

I think there had been a long term desire to upgrade the Brighton Line
service to London Bridge, but there was no spare rolling stock available.
Thameslink resolved this with brand new trains that the commuters hated from
the start (they still do), and released some units for the newly electrified
East Grinstead line.
