From recollection both King's Cross and Euston generally don't have
barriers apart from a few on the individual platforms. I forget what
Canon Street has.

Definitely nothing at the Cross (for now) and not noticed anything at
Euston.

Doesn't at least one of the local platforms have a set at the bottom of the
ramp?

Yes - one of the earliest TOC main line station installations. Only
covers the "suburban" platforms for Silverlink Metro / County services.

The Euston platforms are dedicated, aren't they, because of differing
electrification systems?

Yes-ish. Platforms 9 and 10 are electrified both as DC and AC, so
they're the only platforms that can be used[*] for Silverlink Metro
trains that run on the DC lines.

Platforms 8 and 11 are also within the suburban gateline (see
http://www.networkrail.co.uk/Station...nts/Euston.pdf
) but are electrified AC-only and are generally used for Silverlink
County services on the WCML proper.
[*] technically, with most Silverlink Metro trains being 313s, this
isn't true - but doing a voltage change at Camden would be annoying for
all concerned.
