Default Oyster PrePay on a bus

Ok here goes......

Pre-Pay Oyster is NOT available on bus services yet.

It hasn't been launched all they have done is let us know that it will be
coming. So it's a £1.00 cash. It matters not whether the technology works
or not, that isn't the point. The option for the bus is a travelcard, saver
tickets or good old fashioned cash from the (broken) machines at the bus
stops.

For those who like to try their luck with pre-pay on the buses all you do is
cause delay or, if by some fluke it does work, completely mess up the
accounting at the garage.

Maybe it would be best in future if TfL keeps everyone blissfully ignorant
of their plans! :-)))

You get to pay the driver a shiny one pound coin,

You should carry a booklet of 'Saver Six' tickets for this reason!

It's a bit off that if the technology isn't working full fare is charged,
IMO. A better policy would be to wave people through[1] with unreadable
cards or dodgy machines. This is what the Milton Keynes drivers tend to
do (though admittedly they are only passes, not pre-pay).

[1] Only on buses, mind, as a Tube station would have the facility to
resolve the problem.

Maybe it would be best if new innovations were released to
properly-trained staff, well-informed public and in full working order,
rather than the painful, piecemeal mess that has dogged Oyster.

Prepay? Can't buy that here yet... Burnt Oak ticket office, December 2003)

Capping? Not yet
PrePay on buses? Not yet
Use Oyster PrePay to buy paper Travelcard? Sorry, no.

I now have *more* tickets in my bag than ever.

Great!

Remind me someone, when Oyster (or Prestige as was) was due to be
released - 1990's I seem to remember
