I dread to think what the penalty fare is. Probably similar to that
for top-posting.

Not a bad place, but isn't Hollywood the pits?

I'm sure when I looked at the LU site the other day that this bus was
the only replacement service listed, and that HEx was added at the last
minute. Can anyone confirm or refute that?

The Traffic Circular for the week 28 May to 3 June mentioned it. The
closing date for items to be included in that issue was 16th May.

In what circumstances does Expresstitution apply? I'm due to travel to
Heathrow on 17th June when the Picc is closed between Hammersmith and Acton
Town. That means the TfL planner is giving me a four-leg journey
Victoria-Notting Hill Gate-Ealing Broadway-Acton Town-Heathrow which isn't
funny with luggage. It's giving me HEx too, but says Travelcards aren't
valid. I'm tempted to catch the NX bus from Victoria but they aren't very
frequent.

When Expresstitution is in action, are Oyster cards valid on the HEx? If
not, is a paper Travelcard the only ticket that's valid, or will a single
Z1-6 do?

For added fun both train routes from Cambridge are blockaded that day...
I've booked seats on the coach instead.

The closures on 16/17 June are the same as for 2/3 June, so I would
expect HEx to be offered again (unless there are also engineering works
affecting HEx, which as far I can see there aren't). Probably the
Journey Planner hasn't yet been updated with that weekend's
arrangements. Try again on Monday.

When I last took advantage of HEx validity, it was limited to
Travelcards. Oyster cards on which a Travelcard was loaded certainly
worked, as did Freedom Passes. A single Z1-6 was not valid then, but
the rules might have changed this year.

How does one touch in at Paddington or touch out at Heathrow? A
Weekend single from Zone 6 through Zone 1 to Heathrow costs £2. We all
know that in times of disruption the oyster system is happy to steal
upto £8 (unrefundable) form you -- it's a shame as the cash fares are
so much pricier at the weekend.

For PAYG? This absolutely contradicts what I was told (last year,
admittedly) at Paddington.

Now assuming Clive to be right (obviously!) Has the system/validity
changed or was the member of staff at Paddington simply wrong?

Clive doesn't know everything. Here's a list of at least 24 things that
he didn't know at one time:

Presumably he knows some of them now.

Thanks, that's reassuring as a backup plan - now we've booked tickets to
Victoria and left plenty of time we might as well catch the coach to
Heathrow, but it's handy to know if it goes pear-shaped. Since there's a
bit of confusion, if Oyster is permitted but they're not accepting Z1-6
tickets, is it possible to buy a day Travelcard on Oyster? That would at
least provide a valid ticket given the lack of touch-in and touch-out points
at Heathrow and Paddington. Does the gripper carry an Oyster reader when
expresstituted?

Not when I used it last weekend. I just waved my oyster wallet at him and
he seemed happy with that.
I did this twice.
(The HC grippers usually ask to physically see the card, but they don't
have readers either)
