They will lie to you. I've once intervened when someone with a great
big suitcase was being told to go the long way round out of the
station.

No doubt it's the instructions they've been given, with who knows what
threat behind them, like the drivers being told to make bizarre
announcements.

But in the last couple of weeks, there was a passenger alarm at London
Bridge and therefore nothing coming on the Northern. The staff were
suddenly admitting that the Central Line existed after all and
directing people to it (via precisely the normal route).

This was with straight faces and no hint of embarrassment.

To make things worse:

" Tower Gateway station will be temporarily closed from 28 June 2008
until Spring 2009 for major upgrade works to allow three-carriage
trains to operate into the station."

"So the change at Tower Gateway will be gone and everyone will have to
go to Bank station to make their change. Fabulous! "

So I don't know how Bank station can cator for the crowd

The real question is whether a DLR built so cheap that escalators only
last seventeen years can cater for anything.

A significant part of the solution would be for SET to be forced to
accept PAYG between Lewisham/Greenwich and Cannon Street/Charing
Cross.

With the ELL and the DLR being screwed up at the same time, the PAYG
route has been taken away.
