AIUI it will still be called the Circle Line.

I suggest Circle becomes Teacup, District becomes Saucer, Bakerloo
becomes Spoon ...

For those of us not famiiar with this concept could you clarify
what 'teacup service' means. *I assume it is not a buffet car on
each train. *Does it refer to the shape or the route on a map???

Yes. *From Barry Salter's post:

Circle:
-=-=-=-

Hammersmith - Edgware Road - Circle Outer Rail - Edgware Road :
Every 10 minutes
Edgware Road - Circle Inner Rail - Edgware Road - Hammersmith :
Every 10 minutes

Thus the "Circle" line doesn't do a round and round and round
service, but becomes a there-and-back route, albeit with a big loop.

Thanks, I thought it might be something like that. *But is this a
permanent change or just an arrangement during engineering works? *If
the Circle Line is no longer to be a circle it would need to be
renamed causing massive confusion and departing from about a century
of history.

Will be permanent, but seems to be a trial this time.

Thanks. I take it Boris will organise a competition to choose a new
name then.

Apparently the name will remain. It's just that some passengers will be
mightily confused and fed up about it.

And others might actually consider using the Circle line if it starts
being reliable!

(I take it you are perhaps one of the some who will be fed up about
these Circle line changes, given the concomitant knock-on changes to
Wimbleware services, i.e. the reduction of Wimbleware trains starting
from Edgware Road? I'll admit I'm one of those who essentially avoids
the Circle line at the moment - there always seems to be a better way!)

Can't say I've found that enough of an issue to complain myself.

The Wimbleware/Circle combination gives a one-change route between Putney
and King's Cross, avoiding humping child's buggy or heavy luggage up and
down footbridge stairs any more than necessary (can't be avoided at East
Putney). It's pretty reliable for same platform interchange. Can't do that
under new arrangements, and that was true before they started cutting
Wimbledon trains back from Edgware Road to High St to add extra changes
too.

Noticed on TfL weekend travel a hint that a trial run of the Circle to
Hammersmith 'Teacup' service is happening this weekend. Can anyone
confirm this is the case? There are no 'service changes' displayed for
the Circle, they're just saying for Edgware Rd station:

"Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 June, there is no through Circle line
service. Passengers travelling between Bayswater and Baker Street in
either direction will need to change trains at Edgware Road"

Not the whole story methinks...

As others have confirmed, yes there's a trial happening this weekend.
I read about this recently in 'another place' - actually no need to be
coy, it was on the District Dave forum - and intended to but never
quite got round to posting something here, not least because but I
hadn't quite realised how imminent the trial was due to be.

There's lots of discussion in this mega-epic DD thread concerning the
weekend trial and indeed the whole Tea cup concept - talk of the trial
starts on page 29:
http://districtdave.proboards.com/in...8139&page =29

There's a good deal of scepticism about it - FWIW some of those
commenting are involved in the operational railway (whilst others are
just observers), though I can't help but feel that some of the
opposition is just the innate conservatism and opposition to change
that always shows itself when a shake-up of the old ways is proposed.
As I've said downthread, if it makes the Circle line work better,
there's surely something to be said for it.

Incidentally one thing I picked up from that thread is that on
Saturday afternoon (between around 1430 and 1830) there will be a
period "when trains run east of Whitechapel to fully replicate the Dec
09 off peak service", otherwise trains will be terminating at
Whitechapel. I'm not au fait enough with the plans to comprehend the
full implications of that, but it will be referring to the eastern end
of the H&C line - normally on Saturdays, just like M-F, the H&C line
provides a full service all the way to Barking during the day (though
not during the early morning or late evening).

He could take a leaf from modern marketing and call it "Your Circle
Line".

Which would have the side effect of making platform announcements - This
is Your Circle Line train - slightly more correct.

How about "New Circle"?

One-change route: Putney - Earls Court - lift - Piccadilly line -
Kings Cross - [lift from next year / escalator + lift with no stairs
now]

It seems to me a case of operator convenience overruling convenience for
(some) passengers.
