Thabks to Chiltern - but how about extra carriages?

There were no Metropolitan Lines running south of Harrow on the Hill again this

TfL Strange Journeys

TfL's Journey Planner can be very useful but it can also come up with strange
results. I think I've now solved the frustrating problem of repeatedly being
told there's an "internal error" and my...

Putting roof-level railways underground?

I thought the reason underground tube lines were less common south of the river
was the number of underground streams?
(Please don't tell me this was an urban myth!)
It might be less of a problem...

Networker refurbishment (was Bus Etching Problem)

This problem of etching is getting widespread around parts of Hillingdon,
effecting buses, bus shelters etc., like an epidemic, and I think the culprits
are wandering bands of kids. They do bus...

Old tramroutes, Streatham

Mention of tramlines in Streatham has reminded me that at the north-east corner
of Tooting Common near Emmanuel Road there is a bridge under the railway that
would be wide enough for vehicles,...

Tufnell Park Station

There has been regular work going on some nights, for a while. Good job Ben
warned us about the closure though, I am going that way next week and will try
a different route.

Postcode puzzles

H'mm. Wondering whether to buy one for our local constabulary. Following a
recent incident when I dialled 999 I was told to call my "local" station, and
given a number which turned out not to be the...

You're not going to believe this!

The card is indeed an Oyster, and they were supposed to be a big improvement on
the old cards which had to be passed through the barrier slot and took wear and
tear, sometimes not lasting the year....

Studies in brown

Seen recently on TV, after lot of coverage on London's Olympic bid, and
visiting party sampling a traffic jam, etc. , plus comments on how superior the
capital's transport services are (no kid!) - a...

You're not going to believe this!

The story so far: Earlier this year, after repeated trips to the PO where I was
was living (because they'd run out of the cards), I got my new plastic travel
pass, not due to expire until 2006. After...

Ealing to Oxford - anyone advise me on the commute?

Must admit I'd sooner live in Oxford than Ealing! Some better pubs for a start.

At my last job there were a few people who commuted into west London from
Oxford and environs, one woman coming in...

removing staff? What happens to security?

But the official advice was to draw the attention of station staff to it.
Must admit, as I was going to work that morning and getting out that stop, I
wasn't keen to hang around anyway.
I assume the...

Thanks to all who have revived this topic, and my memories. I worked at Art
Metals
in the early 1960s, and later briefly at BCC, before it became part of Racal.
I'm not sure but I think Art Metals...
